Get Your Deposit Back.
Did you have a Chicago Landlord who has required a security deposit and breached the Chicago Landlord Tenant Ordinance provisions or a “move-in” fee or administrative fee more than half your rent?
Does your landlord rent and not live in the building? Does they live in the building and the building has less than six units?
You may be entitled to DOUBLE your security deposit under the Chicago Residential Tenant Ordinance.
You have up to two years to make a claim under the Chicago Landlord Tenant Ordinance and the Illinois Security Deposit Act.
Do you live in Illinois and rent from a landlord in a building with five or more units? You are covered under the Illinois Security Deposit Return Act.
You are owed your Security Deposit back within 45 days of MOVE-OUT, not the expiration of the lease.
If your landlord does not send your deposit within 45 days of your move-out date, has refused to supply the itemized statement of charges within 30 days, with receipts of actual costs within 30 days for any contractors or has supplied such statement in bad faith you may be entitled to DOUBLE your security deposit.
If you rent from a property in Illinois outside of Chicago with more than 25 units, you are entitled to annual interest on your security deposit. You can receive the amount of your security deposit as a penalty.
